Lakewood Senior CitizensSeniors searching for a place to retire can find quiet neighborhoods in Lakewood, Colorado. Lakewood is close to the mountains and within a 20 minute drive to downtown Denver. That makes it a convenient option for Lakewood seniors who are ready to find a home for their golden years.

Here are the top 5 reason Lakewood excels to meet retiring seniors needs:

1. Plenty of Golfing Opportunities

Although Applewood is technically its own city, when seniors search for homes in Applewood, many of the results will actually be located in Lakewood.

For seniors who enjoy playing golf in their leisure time, the Lakewood area is home to several golf clubs. Those include the Applewood Golf Course and Fossil Trace Golf Club. Also, the Rolling Hills Country Club is another popular choice among Lakewood seniors. Because, it offers beautiful views from anywhere on the course.

Some golf courses in Lakewood are located right in town including Fox Hollow Golf Course and Homestead Golf Course.

2. Plenty of Health Care and Senior Living Options

Belmar Shopping Mall in Lakewood

Belmar Mall in Lakewood offers shopping an an excellent Urgent Care and ER too.

Lakewood is home to several top-notch hospitals and doctor’s offices. For example, St. Anthony Hospital, Belmar ER and Lakewood Medical Center provide easy access for seniors. OrthoColorado Hospital is located right in Lakewood near St. Anthony Hospital. Colorado Kidney Care is also close by for seniors who require this specialized medical attention.

For seniors who no longer want to live on their own, the Lakewood area offers plenty of assisted living and senior-only living options. Many are located in nearby Denver including Brookdale Highline which has beautifully landscaped grounds with a courtyard. A few are also located in Lakewood proper including the Atria Inn at Lakewood.

3. Offers an Excellent Quality of Life for Aging Adults

Lakewood offers a generally comfortable year-round climate. The area averages about 300 sunny days per year. That’s is more than the U.S. average of 205. Such a favorable climate makes it an ideal place for everyone to live. With the exception of winter, it’s rarely too hot or too cold to enjoy those golf courses.

Lakewood, Colorado also offers a number of senior-focused programs and services that include classes, fitness activities, travel, outdoor recreation, dances and other support services. These types of services for individuals 55 and older can help them stay active.

4. Numerous Financial Benefits

Recreation opportunities about in and around Lakewood, Colorado. It’s located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Colorado as a whole is a favorable state for seniors and retirees to live because of the numerous tax benefits it offers. Colorado’s income tax system allows for a significant deduction on all retirement income. In addition, the cost of living in the state is among the lowest in the country. Of course this varies from town to town. But, in general, the cost of living in Colorado is generally lower than other states.

All of this spells good news for seniors and retirees. Because, they  can benefit from the tax deductions on their retirement income. As an added bonus, while sales tax is relatively negligible, groceries and medicine are tax exempt. So, seniors visiting the pharmacy for their prescriptions won’t be paying sales taxes each time.

5. Transportation Services

Lakewood is well-connected to Denver’s comprehensive transportation system and offers several money-saving discounts for seniors. The RTD Denver bus system connects the city with surrounding suburban areas, including Lakewood and offers reduced fares for senior citizens.

Lakewood, Colorado has a lot to offer senior citizens in terms of recreation, services and programs, health care and plenty of senior housing choices in your price range.
