Just in time for Thanksgiving, let’s talk turkey. Literally. Last Friday, I was just sitting in my car at the valet station at the Landmark Condos in the heart of the Landmark Shopping Center, when a herd of wild turkeys crossed my path. At first I thought it was a flock of geese, enjoying the gorgeous fall weather. But, as they got closer, I could see that these were definitely a bird of a different feather.
According to the various staff members at the Landmark, these turkeys were born in the general parking garage of the popular residential/retail area in Greenwood Village just last year. Although they occasionally venture out to enjoy the nearby parks and the highline canal, the mother turkey and her nine poults (baby turkeys) still nest in the shelter of the cement structure, near the warmth of the bustling excitement and entertainment.
And, frankly, who can blame them? The Landmark is a unique, mixed-use community built by Everest Development in 2008. It features a fine arts movie theater, comedy/entertainment venue, a variety of restaurants & bars, boutique shopping, and luxury high-rise condo living. As a resident in either the Landmark (Tower I) or the Meridian (Tower II), you can enjoy valet car service, 24-hour concierge, Fitness/Health Spa, 2 outdoor pools, a 26-person hot tub, Golf Simulator, party rooms, theater room, wine & art storage, business center with video conferencing, room service, furnished Guest Suite access, catering & demonstration kitchen, and even grocery carry-up. This is a full-service amenity package that is unequaled in Greenwood Village. And, with convenient access to the Denver Tech Center and the light rail, the location really can’t be beat.

These wild turkeys at the posh Landmark blend into the landscaping so well I didn't see them at first.
What’s really remarkable about the new Landmark residents is that wild turkeys were once virtually extinct in the state of Colorado. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that the Division of Wildlife launched a statewide campaign to reintroduce these birds. And thanks to their efforts, the wild turkey is thriving.
Of course, becoming Greenwood Village’s premier condo community didn’t come easily for The Landmark either. Plenty of obstacles have presented themselves, such as building delays, vacant commercial space, and, even, bankruptcy. Fortunately, the future looks bright. Under new ownership and with the bankruptcy behind them, the Landmark has no recorded liens, a huge HOA reserve account, and units are selling. In fact, you might even bump into a few local sports celebrities while you’re there – including the manager of the Colorado Avalanche and various Denver Nuggets players. New merchants, such as Chez Cirque Dueling Pianos and Zinga Frozen Yogurt, keep drawing in more and more traffic – the garage never been so crowded… Just make sure to watch out for the turkeys!
So, the only question remaining is will these wild turkeys survive Thanksgiving on Thursday? Residents of the Landmark can get “delivery”. We can only wonder if one of those birds might be delivered, suitably dressed for the elegant Landmark.
Take a look at my listing of a 2 bedroom condo with mountain views at the original Landmark Tower One!
Sounds like quite a turn around for this development. Is it symptomatic of what is happening in the area in general?
This is amazing! I live near the Landmark condos in Greenwood Village. I haven’t seen any wildlife around here in a long time. WOW! I guess the new shopping area is just too busy for the critters.
The good news is the kinds of folks living at the Landmark aren’t likely to bag one of those Turkeys for Thanksgiving. They can afford store bought and wild turkeys are a little tough eating.
The Landmark has been down but not out for a long time now. The shopping center seems to be doing very well. The parking lot is nearly full all the time. I would love to live there if I could it.
I think there are really two factors that are helping with the success of the Landmark. The first is that it is a really unique development in the DTC (full service amenities, new unit sales, etc) – which is very attractive to the empty-nesters coming from Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills. Secondly, the new owner (the lender) is super involved – they have been pumping money into new marketing, building upkeep, and the HOA reserves.
This is quite cute, just in time for Thanksgiving! 😀 I think the turkeys in modernized place such a venue for condos and modern buildings will give the place a country-like feel. 😀
The meat would probably be a little tough..
Great story – Those turkeys are certainly enjoying a fine lifestyle over there. Enjoy it while they can, I sure they will end up being part of the celebrations for next years thanks giving !
So, did the wild turkeys make it past Thanksgiving. I’d love to see this, but I deal mainly with the market for Seattle homes.
