Denver Light Rail will expand service from downtown to Denver International Airport.
Living in Reunion and other northern communities near Denver International Airport is getting even more exciting. The long awaited Denver Light Rail train to DIA is almost ready to open. Is it even possible that Tower Road near Denver International Airport will be become a new Denver Tech Center? Some people are saying the developments already in the works along with the new light rail will do just that.
DIA Denver Light Rail Line Opens Soon
Over the past few years travelers going to and from Denver International Airport have patiently watched the construction of the new RTD FasTracks Line. It’s going from Union Station right to DIA. I am excited to say that it looks like the wait is almost over. The new line will finally be open on April 22, 2016.
RTD travelers will be able to travel the 23 mile line to D.I.A. in about 37 minutes. It looks like there will be 6 stops at stations in-between. This will be a huge amenity for people in the area. There will be no more looking for parking, no traffic jams and a stress free commute to the airport. It will be known as the “University of Colorado A Line”. Happy travels are coming soon.
Aeroteroplis Near DIA?
However, this is only one of the many new improvements coming along the Tower Road Corridor near DIA. The land around DIA has been virtually vacant with only a few hotels and restaurants in the area. According to John Kasarda, professor and author, the areas around airports will begin to shape business hubs around the country. Kasarda coined the term “Aeotroplis”.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock refers to this term in reference to a new “Denver Tech Center” in the making around DIA. Right in line with this concept, the Denver Light Rail Line Station located at 61st Avenue will be the new Pena Station.

Mixed use development near the new light rail station at Pena is booming.
Pena Station will be located on the east side of the Light Rail Line and will basically run from 56th Avenue north to around 72nd Avenue. It is located just north of the growing community of Green Valley Ranch which will be composed of mixed uses including residential, commercial, business offices and open space. The residential, commercial and business residents will have easy access to not only DIA, but also downtown Denver via the RTD Rail Line. This will be a huge benefit to everyone.
While it is still in development, plans are underway and construction has begun on a few of the areas. I hear that Panasonic may well be opening a facility in the general area soon. For additional Information, visit www.PenaStation.com directly.
This is only a small fraction as to what is happening down Tower Road. Be sure to watch this blog as we will be keeping you informed of updates happening in the area. The bottom line is that this might well be the beginning of a massive new mixed use complex facilitated in part by the opening of the new Denver light rail line to Denver International Airport.
