I sell real estate in Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Niwot, Broomfield and throughout the northern suburbs. But more than selling homes, I show folks lifestyles of communities including their schools when families have school age children
When considering a new home in the northern Denver suburbs, one of the most important aspects of the search for young families is finding a home that has access to an excellent school district. If you’re looking to relocate to the Boulder area, the Boulder Valley School District is one of the best in the state. Not only does Boulder Valley make sure your children receive a quality education, but they are also unveiling massive efforts to provide your kids with healthy lunches. Here are just some of the highlights of their new lunch program:
The Boulder Valley School District recognizes the importance of providing healthy and wholesome lunches at school and is pleased to announce some new changes for this year to meet the nutritional needs of its students.
Farm to Boulder Schools
The Boulder Valley School District is one in the three school districts of Colorado to receive a $96,000 USDA Farm to School Grant, which will keep local foods and produce on the lunch menu to give kids a more wholesome and sustainable lunch. This grant will also encourage farm visits to teach kids about where their food comes from and why eating locally is important.
Grains
They are also making a greater effort to provide gluten-free options for kids who are gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive. BVSD is working with Loveland’s Canyon Bakehouse to make gluten-free whole-grain bread available as a substitute for a number of lunch sandwiches and entrees.
The non-gluten-free bread BVSD uses is Sandy Sweet Wheat Bread and now when you purchase a loaf of this bread at Whole Foods Market, Whole Foods donates a portion of the sales to Boulder Valley School District!
Dairy Substitutes
BVSD is pleased to announce that soymilk is back as a lactose-free lunch option after a modification of the CO Healthy Beverage Guidelines. This will be available in 8 oz. plain, organic options.
Proteins
The Boulder Valley School District not only wants to make sure that a healthy and balanced meal is available to its students, but they are also making an effort to budget for chicken and beef that is hormone- and antibiotic-free.
