It is a question I am asked every time I start working with clients who have Boulder real estate on their radar. I personally moved to Boulder in 1999 and have loved living in and around it ever since. Let’s take a look at the reasons Boulder Real Estate for sale is so expensive.
The most obvious reason is Boulder’s proximity to the mountains/foothills. Boulder is consistently ranked as one of the best towns for outdoor recreation in the country. There are thousands of acres of protected open space for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, etc. World class climbing exists all around the Boulder area. Take a look at some of the outdoor rock climbing options.
With the mountains protecting Boulder to the west, and the city’s outlook on buying up as much open space as possible, there isn’t any room for expansion. This is one of the main reasons Boulder real estate for sale consistently goes up in value: low inventory and high demand to be around all the great things that creates this high quality of life.
Since Boulder is a mile above sea level with mountains out its front door, many pro cyclist call Boulder home too. Matter of fact, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is currently taking place across the entire state of Colorado with the finish taking place in Boulder (experts are calling this the second toughest race behind the Tour de France). Guess who led this grueling race to victory? It’s a Boulder cyclist.
If biking on the road isn’t to your liking, you might want to check out a brand new bike park the City of Boulder just constructed last yr: Valmont Bike Park. Check out this cool aerial tour:
When thinking of Colorado, skiing/riding always seems to be an activity the residents of Boulder enjoy. Less than 30 minutes from town is a great little ski area, Eldora.
Another big reason Boulder Real Estate is a premium is the strength of the schools. Check out these high scores on the Great Schools site.
Boulder is also home to Colorado University. This was the first year where the vacancy rate around campus hit zero percent!! With that demand on housing from just students, no wonder Boulder real estate for sale is always going up in price.
Lastly, companies love Boulder due to the highly educated workforce that they can utilize. Some of the companies include IBM, Google, ConocoPhillips (Renewable Energy Division), and most of the major outdoor companies have either their headquarters or office in Boulder.
If you’re looking for some of these qualities to be amenities near your next home, I feel Boulder should be on your short list. I am happy to discuss in more detail how North Boulder real estate for sale differs from South Boulder real estate for sale, just ask on the form below:
