After living in the Reunion area for about 8 years, most of that during the recession, it is amazing to see how much construction is going on in the area lately. On almost every street corner and vacant piece of land, all you can see are bulldozers, cranes and construction trailers everywhere. I can’t remember the last time I lived in an area that had so much going on at the same time.
Or course, I belong to all the local pages on Facebook pertaining to the Reunion and the northern part of Commerce City area. (Look me up and I will be sure to friend you!) Not a day goes by where someone on the Facebook community is asking about what is happening on some construction site or another. So I thought I would summarize in a nice and easy format for people to reference to satisfy their curiosity. So, here it goes, in no particular order.
At the King Soopers Marketplace: there are 3 pads currently being worked on. Directly next to Kings will be a few retail outlets – one being a Papa Murphy’s Pizza and the other being a Sports Clips Hair Salon. Directly next to it will be a new Ace Hardware store (which is much needed in the area). On a separate pad, the will be a Medical Center housing numerous doctors. Finally on the front section will be a Pacific Dental office. There are still 3 additional pads to be built on and this is in addition to the new McDonalds and Les Schwab tires that were recently opened.
Across the Street, next to the Taco Bell: Construction has begun on a brand new Walgreens.
Behind the Kings Soopers: On the corner of Chambers and 112th, will soon be built the voter approved Commerce City Recreational Center.
Reunion Home Builders
As I reported earlier this year, new homes in Reunion are selling like hot cakes. Inventories and low and prices are rising.
All the builders are hard at work building new homes. Shea Homes is completely out of standing inventory, speculation homes and has a waiting list several months out for dirt starts. They are only releasing a few lots per month. Richmond Homes has one home left in Fronterra Village. In Reunion, they have about 12 lots left and they recently just took a price increase. The only inventory homes available are at the foundation stage. They do have a current incentive of $7500 towards closing costs if you use their lender and insurance company. Lennar Homes is down to their final 14 sites and now has the model homes for sale which is directly across from the park. On a side note, they are almost done filling the lakes with water after being empty all winter for maintenance and repairs – looks like they will be full in about a week.
Other construction spots: Around the area you will notice other spots being constructed. One of the most notable is the long pipe line being installed by Xcel – this is supposedly a high pressure gas line coming in from Fort Lupton to power some new plants – this is called the Cherokee Repowering and Natural Gas Project. Down along Tower Rd at Pena Blvd, you will notice a new bridge being next to the other bridges. This is just a temporary structure to divert traffic across Pena while the crews are doing some major repair work on the current bridge. Finally, again along Tower and 96th, they are working to connect the current 96th Ave directly to Tower Road eliminating the need to drive around the badly worn 88th Ave curve.
This is only the tip of the iceberg – there are still a bunch of vacant properties to build on and the rumors are flying as to which new businesses will be coming to the area. Whichever business it is, I am sure it will be welcomed by this close-knit Reunion community. The old saying from “Field of Dreams” went something like “if you build it, They will come”. Well we are already here, so please continue building for us!
