March in the Colorado Rockies is always about snow – measured in feet, not inches! This year was no different. One snowy morning, Joyce called me. Her sister, Nadine, and I worked together on a transaction in Evergreen. It was a success and we both remembered it fondly. Joyce was ready to sell her family’s treasured cabin in Jefferson, CO (between Bailey and Fairplay along Hwy 285).
Joyce and Dirk had purchase 12 acres there in 1979 when Michigan Hill was in its infancy. In 1989, they built a sturdy log cabin on the high chaparral overlooking the expansive valley of South Park. I love the breath-taking views of Pike’s Peak, the Collegiate Peaks, Silver Hill.

I enjoy Pike National Forest, Lost Creek, Eleven Mile Canyon, Bristlecone and other incredible Colorado locations within this 2,150 square mile piece of undiscovered heaven. This area gives a true escape from the world.

Together, Joyce and I agreed that not everyone wants to live at 10,000 foot altitude . The lifestyle can be harsh and unforgiving. Yet, that is exactly the best-selling feature of this cabin! It’s the wonderful location. When I marketed it in the Evergreen MLS, we concentrated on the construction, the views, the history, and the future of the area. The cabin was built like a fortress with a 70 pound snow load metal roof, 18” log rounds, and over-the-top home systems. We staged it for the setting.
We used crisp photos of the views and building details, advertised drivetimes, and provided packages addressing nearly any question. The home sold in 2 days at huge $428 price per square foot
