When moving to the greater Denver area, selecting the right community can be a daunting task. As a long time resident of the North Denver area I would argue that it has much to offer in spite of what most south side Realtors would tell you. North Denver consists of the following communities: Westminster, Thornton, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette Erie and Brighton.
Consider these Denver suburbs if you are looking for good schools, affordable housing and convenience to downtown Denver.
First the generalizations that should put this North side of town on your radar or at the top of your list. These communities have great school districts as a general rule. These areas offer a short drive into both Downtown and Boulder, opening up great employment opportunities. Further, there is a wide variety of Real Estate options in all price ranges. You can find new build communities with single family homes from as low as $160,000 to others with custom builds well over the million mark.
Now to the specific advantages as far as the North Denver location goes. You have access to 3 major Universities: University of Colorado, University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University. Whether you enjoy college sports or are a patron of the arts, these venues are within an easy drive. There are also branches of these schools in Downtown Denver, so your options for continuing education or are countless.
For you shoppers, there are several notable destinations: Flatirons Mall, Orchard Town Center and Historic Pearl Street in Boulder. These offer everything from IMAX movie theaters to unique boutiques and art galleries. The dining options are endless as well.
I see one of the major advantages to owning a home in North Denver as being your access to the unique recreational opportunities that make Colorado great! You can go take a hike in the Flatirons and I would recommend doing so out of Chautauqua, a National Historic Landmark open area in Boulder. This area is great in all seasons with cross country skiing as well as snowshoeing through the pine forest of the foothills. The trail and park systems in North Denver provide endless options for mountain bikers and road bikers alike. Further there are a large number of off leash dog parks for your furry friends. Finally, there are a greater number of golf courses on the North end of town and the competition keeps your green fees lower that to the South. The classic Colorado day of recreation is to go catch the ski lifts as they open, get a few hours in and then drive down to play your 18 holes of golf. This is possible in few places in this country and every active resident has to do this at least once.
Finally, the access to downtown Denver is excellent. You can get to all the city center offers in about 15-20 minutes from many locations in these communities. So, going to see one of the 4 major sports franchises Denver has to offer is an easy experience. For you frequent flyers, Denver International Airport is a traffic free fast commute on E-470 as well.
So, if you are looking to relocate for retirement (there are 2 newer active adult communities that outstanding) or your new job, get in touch and explore North Denver as an option. The Real Estate on this side of Denver is more affordable and with the newer amenities, I believe that there is a greater opportunity for appreciation.
