As a Realtor for too many years to count, I guess I have become jaded about some things. Lender fraud scams, con artists and some people who make an appointment to see a home for sale and just don’t even bother to show up. But, the one thing I love best about this crazy business is the relationships I develop with my clients and their families.
Many years ago, Art Linkletter had a TV program called “Kids Say the Darndest Things”. He also wrote several books with the same title. Wow! Guess I am showing my age. Most of my clients never heard of Art Linkletter. Well, yes, kids do say the darndest things. They say what is on their mind and what is in their hearts.
I recently closed on a home for a past client which they bought in Highlands Ranch. It’s in a great location across the street from a park and two blocks to the elementary school. The couple has 2 children. Sean is 7 years old and Erin 3 years old.
Several days after closing I visited Sean and Erin’s new home they were really proud and excited about their new home. They especially loved their new bedrooms with the colors they chose to paint their bedrooms. They grabbed my hand and took me upstairs to show off their bedrooms.
Then, Sean looked at Erin and they smiled at each other and smiled like they were trying to hold it back. I knew something was going on in their minds. I have 3 kids of my own I know that look. Well, Sean grabbed my hand pulled me close to him and Erin and in a soft voice said “Dennis, you know you have to come over to our house and spend some “Fun Time” with Erin and me.” WOW what an invitation!
After smiling for several seconds, I said “I wouldn’t miss it for anything, Thank you very much for this great invitation.” I will definitely be back for “Fun Time”. I’ve come to understand that we don’t sell houses as Realtors. What we sell are relationships and “Fun Time.”
I have not been back for my “Fun Time” yet, But will guarantee you, we will have our “Fun Time” soon.
Thanks Sean and Erin for making this a wonderful business and a “Fun Time”
