I live in Evergreen, Colorado. I sell real estate here. And, I play here. I often tell my clients relocating to Evergreen that we live in the vast “Playground of The Rocky Mountains”. One way I love to play is to enjoy the great outdoors while Glamping. Camping in luxury offers a whole new experience.
I’m sure you’ve heard about Glamping by now. In 1993, I sat next to a woman who was looking for investors in a North Carolina Glamping park. That was my first exposure to glamping. Of course, glamping has been around for thousands of years. Nefertiti and Akhenaten took the luxury barge to Memphis to glamp in the lush river valley of the Nile for months.Romans glamped all over their personal sea, the Mediterranean.
Whether it’s a teepee in the back yard, or a night in the clouds above The Broadmoor Resort, we all like ‘getting away from home’ for a few nights. There are luxury yurts, safari tents, cabins, even Conestoga wagons, and Stream Liners you can rent for a luxury overnight. You’ll find some in treeless high plains, beside a river or hot springs, or in someone’s attic.Of course, to each, his own. To me the purpose of glamping is to experience nature like I never have before.
Luxury Camping in Colorado
Here in Colorado, over 1000 sites what they call. And, all are within a few hours drive from Evergreen.
There are lots of remote locations with sporting/nature activities that offer a bath house or a separate spa. Glamping.com and Glampinghub.com will save you time researching accommodations from $-$$$$$.We like to fish, hike, ride, run the rapids, meet the locals, or hit the hot springs during the day; then retire to a luxury retreat in the evening. Bring on the chefs and sommeliers! Here are only a few options beautiful Colorado has to offer.
Dunton Hot Springs
My husband and I partied with the hardy men and women of Dunton when it really was a ghost town, with just enough electricity to keep the lights on and the beer cold. Back then you could see the San Juan Mountains thru cracks in walls of the hot springs pool house. Everyone carved their names on the saloon bar top, including Butch Cassidy and Sundance. The bar floor was covered with peanut shells locals considered the perfect ambiance. The area was full of astounding adventures and spectacular views. Dunton Hot Springs feels much the same.
Now, the rustic cabins are luxury living quarters with well-appointed features for any group size. The Dunton Hot Springs can arrange guides for climbing the surrounding 14,000 foot peaks, horseback riding, skiing, private mountaineering, technical alpine climbs, river-rafting on the San Miguel River, even tours to Mesa Verde. The Dolores River meanders through Dunton Hot Springs along the West Fork of the Dolores River. Fly-fishing packages include comfortable and spacious ‘bespoke’ glamping tents anchored to bedrock. Yes, you can enjoy the wilderness without sacrificing anything!
Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort
This is a one-of-a-kind glamping spot! Natives have lounged in the natural hot springs bubbling along Chalk Creek for millennia. Settled in a wide river valley 10 miles west of Buena Vista, with the Collegiate Peaks smiling down, Mount Princeton HSR entices hikers/bikers, ghost town hunters, and hot springs lovers to this mystic location. This resort is a favorite for weddings, reunions, and conventions. Work out at the tennis and basketball courts, or the spa/workout club with a full gym, juice bar, and yoga center. Don’t miss the 400’ water slide.
Once you hit the creek side hot springs, intimate pools, and cascading hot springs, you’ll be ready for a sumptuous dinner at the Princeton Club and Bar. Stay in the Mt. Princeton Lodge, Cliffside Rooms, Hillside Rooms, or any of over two dozen cabins priced to fit any level of luxury.
In the evening, pools are romantically lit, the lit walking paths are invite you to stroll back and forth across the bridges and beautifully landscaped meadows around the resort. What a wonderful day!

ClazyU Ranch Near Granby, Colorado

The Tennessee Pass Nordic Center offers luxurious yurts.
The CLazyU Ranch, originally built in 1919, offers 5-Spur Service ™ on 8,500 acres near Granby, Colorado. What I love about this location is the ‘pride in heritage’ that management and staff who teach children and adults how to have the best experience on the ranch. For example, CLazyU Ranch teaches new adventurers how to develop a relationship with a horse and commands. Bolder riders can herd cattle, or brush up on your barrel racing and special skills in the 12,000 square feet indoor arena which doubles as an entertainment venue on the ranch.
The CLazyU Ranch is devoted to the horses. Their incredible program keeps facilities and tack in excellent condition, their herd “fat and shiny” and services you can rely on year to year. This is good for beginners and experienced vacationers. Enjoy Orvis Endorsed fly-fishing, skiing, snow shoeing, hot tubs and swimming pool, and the riverside spa, where safari tents line the creek. Some tents cantilever over the creek with glass floors so you can watch the trout swimming and wildflowers bursting with color. What a way to enjoy a massage!
