One of the many reasons people love living in Cherry Creek is the vibrant arts, culture, shopping and pedestrian environment. That’s a rare combination to find in Denver neighborhoods. Now, a new pedestrian plaza adds even more to Cherry Creek.
Fillmore Plaza officially opened last month!!! The Fillmore Plaza Redesign project was initiated and agreed upon by the City and County of Denver along with the neighborhoods surrounding the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. Formerly, Fillmore Plaza was not a through street. It was merely a pedestrian walkway.
Fillmore Plaza Offers Pedestrian Access
Fillmore Plaza has opened the streets to gain easier access to the “New North”. That’s what we call the area north of the shopping center that boast boutique shops, restaurants, caffeine watering holes and tons of pedestrian traffic. Local elected officials, developers, neighbors and community goers celebrated the arrivalof “New North” in-style.. The all day event offered performances by various artists and groups, yo-yo competitions, face painting and more.
This all day event was officially kicked off by, then, Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) Vidal, Denver City Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, Cherry Creek BID President & CEO Julie Bender and AEG Live Rocky Mountain President Chuck Morris. In addition to the festival day, merchants were offering great sales all throughout the weekend. If you missed the grand opening, don’t worry about it…there is more to come!
Fillmore Plaza continues to expand with Phat Thai, a new restaurant coming to town October, 2011. This local restaurant originates from Carbondale, CO. It built is reputation there for great noodles and a great local feel. Phat Thai prides themselves on their “expectations [being] high and possessed of an obsession for good and tasty food and drink. No pretension; lots of passion”. Chef and Owner, Mark Fischer, has two restaurants under his belt and, according to Aspen Peak Magazine, he stays consistent with his style of cooking and receives high accolades for it. Phat Thai’s offers a menu with smaller dishes that are meant to be shared. The menu looks so delicious that your salivating glands will have a hard time waiting until October. So, grab your friends, significant other or family and get ready for a fun evening of sharing food and experiencing the “New North”.
