Gold was first discovered in Arvada in 1850. Settlers came in large numbers by 1870 and farmers with them. That made Arvada one of Denver´s oldest suburbs.

Now, Arvada is a thriving community with homes, apartments, retail centers and even a near by regional shopping mall, Flatirons Mall.
Single family homes in Arvada were generally built from the 1960´s to 1990´s. Real estate prices are widely varied.
They range from small starter homes to large "McMansions". There are also condominiums, lofts and apartments in Arvada.
The median family income here is $55,541 (year 2000). And the average home price at the time of the last census was $174,800. Obviously that has risen with inflation. It does reflect a substantial number of smaller older homes which bring the average property value to a lower level. Residents commute to either Downtown Denver (about 20 minutes) or to Boulder (about 25 minutes) usually via US 36 or I-70.
Arvada does have its own cultural center were art is displayed, plays are preformed and community organizations host events. Public schools here are the Jefferson County Schools. They are rated as average to above average based on test scores.
Arvada is home to the Faith Christian Academy which is a private religious institution offering classes in kindergarten through high school. There are currently 1200 students attending Faith Christian, which is affiliated with Faith Bible Chapel.
