Douglas County, Colorado is home to Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Parker and numerous smaller and more rural communities. It’s also home to some of the wealthiest young professionals in the United States.
Nielsen Claritas, a demographics research company, has announced that Douglas County is ranked at #5 in the country for the most households of people between the ages of 25 and 34 making more than $100,000 each year. Loudon County outside Washington, DC was ranked #1.
Families with young children, of course, would fit into this demographic. I’ve noticed that Highlands Ranch and Castle Pines North are especially popular with young families. Highlands Ranch offers all the shopping and amenities of the larger suburb along with its free recreation centers which are nearly identical to the expensive health clubs around town. Castle Pines North is a little less dense but still offers great conveniences and the Colorado ambiance.
Parker is also popular but commuting to work can be longer. The Denver Tech Center has as much professional office space is downtown Denver. It’s it’s only 15 to 20 minutes from Highlands Ranch and Castle play in his North but can be double that from some parts of the Parker area.
As in Douglas County itself, Charles Schwab announced earlier this year that it would import more than 500 jobs from San Francisco. They are based in the popular Meridian International Business Center.GEVO, Inc, a developer of biofuels moved to Douglas County last year and brought more high-paying jobs with it. In July, Douglas County was ranked #5 on CNN Money’s Top 25 List of US counties with the most job growth.
California buyers, in particular love the fact that homes can cost half of what they would in California here. I help three buyers this year purchase homes here that they just couldn’t afford in California. And the lovely lower density, lower crime and family values Douglas County has to offer.
So far this year, we have helped 9 families move to Douglas County from outside Colorado. It is a very desirable area and folks really feel that they are living Colorado!
