Downtown Denver Holiday Guide

Downtown Denver Lights

Make Downtown Denver your starting point to get out and enjoy the spirit of the holiday season!  Tired of the annual company party? Sick of re-runs on TV? Get out to central Denver and take advantage of everything this great city has to offer!

The perfect place to start after dark is Denver’s City and County Building at Colfax and Bannock streets on the west side of Civic Center Park. This building is lit with floodlights and nearly 1 million smaller lights each night through mid-January every year.  And it’s so easy to see – just hop in the car and drive on by!

Not to be outdone, LoDo’s own Union Station building at 17th & Wynkoop St. is also bedecked with colored lights – just a quick ride down the 16th St Mall shuttle from the City and County Building.

Then, ditch the car and stroll along the 16th StMall – this time all lit up with eco-friendly LED lights along the pedestrian route and all the way up the historic D&F Tower at 16th & Arapahoe. Stop in for a dinner and drink somewhere along the way, there are plenty of restaurants available!

If you have time, swing by the DCPA and catch a show – the Colorado Ballet’s Nutcracker is running all month, and the combined forces of the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and the Colorado Children’s Chorale will be presenting their annual holiday concert entitled A Star to Follow Dec 14 –16.

Or catch the classic show, White Christmas, running right now at the DCPA as well.

Other great annual traditions just outside the Downtown Denver area include the Botanic Garden’s annual Blossoms of Light display and the Zoo Lights at the Denver Zoo.Think wintertime is not the time for the Botanic Gardens? Think again! And don’t let the cold nights keep you at home, the Gardens have a heated tent ready tokeep your fingers and toes toasty for that perfect stroll.  Grab the kids and head to the Zoo to check out all the wildlife and the wild lights! Both displays are currently up and running.

And it’s certainly not too soon to plan a great New Year’s celebration downtown as well. Once again Downtown Denver will explode withfireworks to ring in 2008 with displays on both ends of the16th St.Mall.  And to make it easy there are 2 displays planned, the first at 9pm andthe 2nd show right at midnight!
