Pumpkin Makeover Winners

by Dennis Martin, Extreme Pumpkin Fanatic

Ok, this is my third post this year about one of my favorite subjects. Pumpkins are seasonal, festive, tasty and sometimes frightening. But, most of all they are fun. My children, wife and I have enjoyed making pumpkins, secretly giving them away and searching out the best pumpkins in the most unlikely of places.

These came to me today in an email from a friend of mine. I found a couple of them at a website at the bottom. I don’t know where the others came from.

Here are some of our favorites including two we kept away from the children.

Great Pumpkin

By littleton/’>Dennis Martin, Southwest Denver Suburbs Expert

Editor’s Note: In the last few years many residents of the Ken Caryl Ranch in Littleton, Colorado have stepped out their doors on mornings around this time to find that someone has quietly come in the night and left a pumpkin on their doorstep. Over the years this Halloween gift-giver has become known as the “Great Pumpkin.” Who is he? We asked a local little bird who wouldn’t chirp away the secret, but she did tell us this story. Can you guess who he is?Great Pumpkin In Ken Caryl

Yes, Virginia. The Great Pumpkin lives.

As a mater of fact, his place of permanent residence is right here at The Ken-Caryl Ranch in suburban Denver. And like his cousin, Santa Clause, he travels far outside his home territory to spread his goodwill.

Wildlife in Boulder, Colorado

by John Callis, North Denver Suburbs Expert

Living in Northeast Boulder, Colorado for 17 years has provided us with a lot of unexpected excitement due to the wildlife in the area. At night coyotes near Twin Lakes mournfully howl, singing a song to remind us they are out there looking for a tasty morsel, usually someone’s poor pet who happily got out for the night. One would think this area, about 7 miles from the mountains, would be a place where domestic pets would roam unharmed.Boulder, Co Mountain Lion

The Red Fox Hills neighborhood has 115 homes and is surrounded by miles of open space and undeveloped land, tucked between the Boulder Country Club area and suburban Boulder, this small development has had its share of wild animal visitors including mountain lions, coyotes and Red Foxes.

Two mountain lion sightings have been reported in the last year and one particular young female lion

September Home Sales

by Larry Hotz, All Denver Real Estate

In figures just released for September home sales in Denver, Metrolist, the Denver multilist reporting agency, shows a decline in home sales. However, in a separate report, Land Title statistics show average home prices continued to rise in third quarter especially in the south suburbs.

Typical Denver HomeAs recently as last week, the national Case-Shilling home sales report indicated that Denver home sales had been increasing since March. But, that study could not include this most recent data.

In fact, this is a further decline in under-contract sales from August which is traditionally one of the slowest months for home sales in Denver. The only silver-lining in this cloud over real estate sales is for buyers. Market-wide average sold prices softened from the previous month by 7% and from the year ago period a more significant 1.1%. That does not mean the average price of a home dropped but rather that the overall mix of homes sold were at that lower price point. Rising prices in the south suburbs (see Land Title report above) improved compared to the overall market. The south surburbs generally have higher priced homes.

Here is the September, 2007 Denver Home Sales Data from Metrolist, Denver’s MLS:

Fall has arrived in all its glory to the Colorado Rockies. There is a crispness in the air, while the afternoon temperature hovers in the high 70’s to low 80’s. The aspens are golden, scrub oak is beginning to turn crimson and a light dusting of snow can be seen on Long’s Peak. Perfect weather to take a hike and explore these changes for yourself.
